HDD Project In Selby

HDD Utilities along with Trenchless Solutions were instructed to carry out an initial 80 meter water main repair on Dyon Lane, the project was to replace a section of asbestos pipework which had several bursts which were located across the land of a local farmer.

Initially the burst section was to be replaced via open cut trenching but during the initial site visit it became apparent that the new pipe would need to run under a beck which ran through the farmers fields.

Due to the small footprint and minimal disruption created, it was agreed that the Easydrill would be the drill of choice as it can achieve up to 100+m, installing up to 180mm pipes in each drill. On this project we were installing a new 90mm MDPE water main.

Once the leaking 80m section of pipe had been replaced, it was then agreed by the client that they would like the remaining 160m of pipework replacing via directional drilling to protect and remove any risks against any future bursts on the farmers fields.

The additional installation was achieved with two more drills, the first additional drill was of 70m and included drilling under the existing water main and also away from nearby overhead power lines, the last section was a 90m drill bringing the new main to where the stop valve was located.

This project was completed in just three days with reduced health and safety issues due to the existing main being made of asbestos and also no need to work near a water course, the installation was also an environmentally friendly alternative to open cut trenching causing minimal disruption to the site in the process.
